Kids at heart

By ImpostorMom

The husband and I have developed a somewhat unhealthy obsession with SpongeBob SquarePants. This weekend while at the beach we actually sought out our square, yellow friend on the boob tube (it is always on somewhere, btw). My mom watched with us and simply shook her head as we laughed and laughed at the show. It is so damn funny (and so not for kids), it makes me wish it had been on back when we still smoked pot. We watched one that had been recorded on the Tivo (I told you it was an obsession) and I swear the writers had to have been on something to write it. It was like SpongeBob was on acid or something, hysterical.

I think this all started with us trying to find something to occupy Booger for the 2 minutes required to pee. He couldn’t care less about the show, which is a good thing I suppose since he’s not supposed to be watching any TV for another 16 months (that’s just downright laughable).

I guess the real question is, when Booger does get old enough to care about such things will we be the cool parents that like to watch silly cartoons with him or will we be to dorky parents who are so lame because we like stupid cartoons. I hope he’s the sort of kid that’s really going to think that’s cool. If he’s anything like his goofball parents he will be. :)

Nah – it gets better. Son is just about 9, and we love watching that stuff with him. We introduced him to Gilligans Island this past summer. He loved it (although he couldn’t believe his parents are old enough to watch tv when shows were still black and white). Animaniacs & Pink and the Brain is another household favorite.
