Going pink

Normally, I hate pink. I have only in the past few years begun to wear anything even remotely close to a pinkish hue. I’m going pink here in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month. So, I’m 11 days late but hey, better late than never.

It is rare to find someone that has not been touched in some way by breast cancer. One of my mother’s best friends is a survivor. We are all at risk and therefore we should all feel some obligation to fight for a cure.

WhyMommy’s story in particular hit me closest to home because our lives seem so similar. Our babies are two weeks apart and we were both breastfeeding. One day she was relishing in once again being a mother to a new baby, enjoying her boys, breastfeeding and thinking of her family. And then just like that, inflammatory breast cancer struck and she is fighting for her life.

And she’s winning! And she’s awesome. I read her posts and I am inspired to do more each day. To take time with my family to enjoy the little things. To play with my son more. To save the chores for later.

I am also inspired to donate money for breast cancer research. I hope that you will be too. I do not have an abundance of extra cash but I certainly have more extra cash than extra time. So I do what I can. I give up my lattes and scones for a while and I donate that extra cash to breast cancer research.

My good friend over at Charlotte Newcomer walked in the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk recently. Although the walk is over, you can still donate to the cause via her page. Click the banner below to make a donation, every little bit helps. Thanks in advance!

So think pink everybody and raise awareness for this disease that hits so close to home. I’ll return to my comforting blue Nov 1. :)
