The Bite

By ImpostorMom

Something happened last week at daycare that I wasn’t really prepared for just yet. It seems a little early.

You see that, right there on the left side of my little boy’s back. That is a bite mark he received from a little boy that is about three months older than him. That was the second bite that day, the first didn’t leave a mark. Apparently it isn’t just Boog that is getting nibbled on but another little girl too.

I know these things are bound to happen and one day Boog may actually be the offending child but it just makes me feel so bad to know that there is nothing I can really do. I guess that this is just the beginning of things I can’t control.

Just from a practical standpoint, that looks like a really difficult place to get your teeth onto! Punkin got bit once, but then one other time she was the biter. I was mortified. Fortunately, she only did it once and it was because she was extremely frustrated.

Hopefully they’ll keep a closer eye on that kid! Not yours! The other one.

Oh, poor Boog!!! That really left a mark, didn’t it? And that was his second bite? They really need to keep a better eye on the biter!

I suppose getting bit/biting is one of those childhood things that kids go through and probably don’t even remember. But I’m really not looking forward to having to deal with either side of it. But like you said, there’s really nothing you can do, as with so many things in their lives. Just hugs and kisses once you get home.

I am so sorry!! How yucky.

All 3 of my kids have been bitten at some point and I was amazed at how quickly their preschool jumped on the issue. Basically the offender’s parents were notified and the biter had a teacher follow them around for a set number of days (days!) to make sure they stopped. Profuse apologies were made by the staff to the bitten kid’s parents.

I really appreciated how seriously they took it. They were not cavalier or belittling.

    I’m sorry, that sucks.

Don’t be too hard on the mom though. I have a friend who is the mom of a bitter and she says the other moms are so mean to her.

I had forgotten all about the drama that was biting. It’s (finally) been a while since my daughter has come home with teeth marks in some random spot. I wonder if that means that the offender is now attending a different daycare . . . must investigate.

Guess who bit TWO friends at school yesterday? Go on. GUESS. Punkin! I am mortified, AGAIN. But, she told me that another girl bit HER, so maybe that’s where she got the idea.

I don’t know you or your son but I teared up a little when I saw that picture! So awful! Is anything being done about the biter?

This is a tough one and I’ve never experienced myself but a friend of mine is the Mama of a biter. She says it is 500 times more pleasant to be the mother of the victim than the mother of the perpetrator who has to avert eye contact when she picks her kid up.
