Yesterday morning my cell phone rang at 8:15am. I was in the middle of a conversation with a coworker and I looked down to see the picture of my little sister pop up on the phone. Hmmm, it seems awful early for her to be calling. I knew instantly that she was calling to tell me that she is pregnant. (There is an epidemic, after all.)
I knew that they had been trying somewhat and she had asked for my fertility monitor. She proceeded to tell me that she had taken a test yesterday morning and that the line was really, really faint so she wasn’t sure if it was positive or not.
She said she took the test and showed it to her husband to see if he could see the faint line and his response was, “yeah, there’s a line, now could you get your pee stick away from my breakfast.” (He is indeed very excited and you have to know my brother-in-law to know that that response was perfect and will also be a lovely story to relay to this child one day. :P)
My sister was still not convinced so she called me to get another opinion. No matter how many times I said “a line is a line” she simply refused to be convinced. I told her to take a picture of the test in question and send it to me and she said she threw it away. In unison myself and a coworker of hers in the background both exclaimed “YOU THREW IT AWAY?!”
Incredulous that she hadn’t saved the test, her friend told her that they would be purchasing another one during their break and she would be peeing on that one as well. It turned out that my sister had a doctor’s appointment with her regular doc later that day and she would ask them about it. Guess what, they pretty much did the exact same urine test and it came back positive. A faint positive but still a positive.
Apparently she simply needed the reassurance of a medical professional to tell her that she is indeed about 4 weeks pregnant and the faintness of the positive was simply that it is still early. She called me after the appointment to let me know that she is indeed pregnant. My response of course was “I told you so.” :P
Congrats to my baby sister and her poppyseed sized baby! I’m going to be an aunt again come December.

Congrats to you and your sister and BIL!!! That’s so exciting! I wish her a healthy and easy pregnancy.
I wouldn’t be convinced by a faint line either. Of course, to find out I was pregnant, I had blood tests and a nurse calling to tell me and then more blood tests and calls, etc. There are some benefits to fertility treatments.
