Is it sad…

…that I am so incredibly psyched for television tonight?

It’s been so long since I’ve had a plethora of new shows to watch. I know the writers were on strike for a good reason but it was us viewers that were left to wallow in the sea of crap reality television. I mean I was even forced to read!

Not that I don’t thoroughly enjoy reading, I do but I tend to get so involved that I forgo things like sleeping and that isn’t good for anyone in my life. At least with TV there is a finite beginning and end to any given episode and it tends to be no more than an hour, 40 minutes without commercials.

So tonight returns the NBC power Thursday night line up. It seems that Thursday night has always been a somewhat of a powerhouse for NBC. Not so long ago Friends was on Thursday night (and Seinfeld before that) and I used to host and go to what our circle of friends at that time would call “Friends Night.”

Basically we used the television show as an excuse to get together, eat dinner and drink. I don’t know why we felt the need to have an excuse but most of the girls did love the show and would shush the men during the show. Conversations were for commercials after all.

We would rotate the house and dinner responsibilities and I have fond memories of these “Friends nights.” That was years ago and since then that entire circle of friends has moved away and now that I think about it we’ve all had children too. This throws a wrench into the socializing part but my love of the boob tube persists.

My infatuation of television I think comes from escape. I love being immersed in another world. I also love movies but these days a movie is a commitment and it is rare that I have a solid two hours in which to watch a whole movie. A television show is either 30 minutes or an hour and with the lovely invention that is Tivo even that can be trimmed down.

So, I will rejoice tonight as I sit down to watch Jim and Pam on The Office and Liz Lemon on 30 Rock. I may even watch with commercials instead of waiting on Tivo! Wow, I AM really excited. :P

I really miss Friends Night, too! Too bad we don’t live close and can’t to a The Office Night! I’m also hooked on 30 Rock, Scrubs and My Name is Earl. I love Thursday night TV! (And before Seinfeld, it was The Cosby Show!)

    Yeah for new TV shows!!
