Wait, Mother’s Day is this Weekend?!

By ImpostorMom

Through the haze of sickness we’ve had around these parts I have completely forgotten about Mother’s Day. Not only have I forgotten that I should probably buy my own mother something but I have absolutely no idea what I would like. Truthfully I don’t really want anything except maybe a child that isn’t vomiting and a nose I can breathe out of. I suspect that may be too much to ask.

I really don’t want my husband to go out and spend a bunch of money on me. What I really want is the gift of time. Time to do something for myself, by myself without any guilt about abandoning my family attached to it. My plan is to go out of town to visit a friend Friday night and return Saturday night. That’s only 24 hours.

My husband likes to kid, a lot. And I know that he is kidding most of the time but sometimes there is a little grain of truth in there. So when he says I’m “abandoning” my family for the night I know he kidding but there is a little bit of guilt thrown in there. And I hate it.

I love my family and I adore my son but sometimes I just want to get away. I want to visit my friend that I haven’t seen in a year and spend time with her without having to wipe a nose or a butt and worry about maintaining nap and eating schedules. And you know what I feel like I deserve that, and not just because my trip happens to fall on Mother’s Day weekend.

So that’s what I’ve asked for for Mother’s Day and so far the plan is in place. Now if I can get my son to stop throwing up and keep the rest of us somewhat healthy through the weekend then maybe the plan will come to fruition. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. I’ve also got my eye on a pair of custom designed Chuck Taylors as well, just in case this whole sickness trend continues and I don’t get my time off.

Why do they always do that to us? Is it because we’re moms? Do they think we’re not supposed to want some time to ourselves? That we gave up our “self” when we became mothers?
