A new car was bought
The day has finally come
RIP Man Truck
The husband of course is having instant buyer’s remorse and has already begun blaming me for getting rid of his beloved Man Truck. Ugh. We weren’t even out of the parking lot in the new vehicle before he started with the usual blame game. Just so you know this looking at cars and researching what sort of car to purchase this week was ALL HIM. Not me, HIM. Blame all you want man but I left it up to you. So there.
Granted I have been vocal about my hatred for all things Man Truck but it isn’t like I berated him daily on it. I simply fanned the flames when he mentioned that it might be time to start looking last Monday because gas is out of hand and a vehicle that gets 11 miles to the gallon may not be all that practical anymore.
So he commenced with the researching and ultimately our most desired vehicle was, of course, out of our price range. The two other best options he found were a 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander and a 2006 Subaru Forester. Last night we procured a last minute babysitter so that we could drive 45 minutes to Atlanta to look at the Outlander. He’d already negotiated a good deal over the phone so basically if we liked it we were gonna buy it.
Well, he liked it but wasn’t completely convinced. At ten minutes until 9 he decided we should try to go to the other dealership (about 20 minutes away) to look at the Forester. That dealership closed at 9. He called, they stayed open. I was pissed. I loved the Outlander. It was cool looking and had tons of bells and whistles and drove pretty good. It was a bit noisy but quieter than my Pathfinder for sure (That is so not saying much). And it rode well.
We got to the other dealership and looked at the Forester. I didn’t want to like it. Not at all. First, it’s white and I don’t like white cars, blech. And it has beige leather interior. I hate leather seats, cold in the winter and hot in the summer. I really do not understand why anyone would want leather seats. Plus the Forester was more station wagoney and less SUVey.
However, that thing drives wonderfully, rides great AND is super, super quiet. Plus Subarus hold their value better than Mitsubishis. Personally I didn’t really have a preference either way but I figured what are you really doing in a car…um, driving it. So why not get the one that drives better and gets better gas mileage.
Ultimately it came down to the fact that the husband felt like the Forester had been better taken care of because it was near perfect condition. He has this theory that if you don’t take car of the visual appearance of your car then it is less likely that you take care of the mechanical condition of the car. He’s probably right. The Outlander had several scratches and dings and I discovered that one of the tail light covers was cracked—and not just a little cracked. The interior wasn’t well kept and that’s the sort of thing that drives my husband nuts.
To make a long story even longer, we bought the Subaru Forester and drove off the lot last night at 11:15 pm. A full two hours and 15 minutes AFTER the dealership closed. We weren’t the only ones there after closing so I don’t feel too bad but we certainly were the LAST ones there. We didn’t get home until midnight and I couldn’t fall asleep until after one. Of course Boog woke up at 5:30 am. Joy.
We did proceed to mock our new car all the way home. :) After all it is the LL Bean edition. I suspect the husband will be looking for a skull and crossbones decal to place next to the LL Bean medallion on the back sometime soon. You know, just to balance out the waspyness of the whole LL Bean, wagoney feel of it. Hehe. I offered to drive it and give him my Pathfinder, I mean I’ll totally take one for the team in that respect. Somehow I don’t think he’s gonna buy that though. :)

Hubs had a Forester for a while. It’s a good car in general, though I think ours was a lemon ( or had been in a wreck).
Yay! No more man truck!

It is a pretty waspy car, but everyone I know who has one loves it. Oh, and tell him he can buy more beer with the money he’ll be saving on gas. :)

New cars are so much fun! He’ll get past the remorse part, and I loved my little Subaru I had years ago. Great cars.

I drive a 1998 Buick Century. Nuff said. Be happy with the Forrester. It kicks ass.

[...] took the family truckster and only spent about $85 on gas total. Not bad for a 600+ mile trip in a car totally loaded with [...]
Congrats on the new car!! Hopefully it gets decent gas mileage and can fit all your stuff.
